Sponsor: Associazione Gruppoanalitica / Gruppenanalytischer Verein, (Group Analytic Association)

June 18-19, 2010
Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

The Median Group® constitutes the most important development of Foulkes' ideas applied to a wider group context. To this, Patrick de Maré has given an absolutely personal and original imprint. In the last part of his book Perspectives in Group Psychotherapy: A Theoretical Background, 1972, speaking of the third stage of the evolution of a closed small group, pre-genital archaic stage, family stage, social stage, de Maré concludes that not only the outcome of a neurosis, but the destiny of our entire civilization necessarily depends on the ability to achieve fellowship or Koinonia.

The Median Group® is a 15–30 member setting, in the clinic 17: it is small enough to personally know each other and large enough to be a social dimension; allows the cultivation of the single mind related to other minds; through dialogue, the authentic communication on the level, not free association, which favours regression makes disentangling dualities easier such as personal conscious/unconscious and social conscious/unconscious, it favours the lateralisation of thinking, the activation of both hemispheres and the creativity in the signification: the same thing seen from another perspective.

Rather than insight, it favours the outsight, there takes place transposition more than translation, the mirroring of culture on the single who unconsciously produces it. Being a social setting allows the emancipation from the hierarchical familo centric and tribal culture to a democratic social culture, equivalent to an ego training in action and to an individuation process.

The Median Group® is a socio therapy with the aim to reclaim the mind itself and her functions when obsessed, destructive, fused or confuse
