Serving as a non-profit professional residential treatment program serving children between the ages of 6 and 13 with emotional and behavioral disturbances. it was renamed the Hannah Neil Center for Children in 1977 and soon merged with the Starr Commonwealth, now the parent organization. | The Netzwerk Essstörungen is a non-profit organisation which was founded in 1990 and serves all of Austria.
The Network Eating Disorders has set itself objectives ranging from using public relations to enhance public understanding of eating disorders through advising and motivation work for sufferers and their relatives to prevention and health promotion.
The Network Eating Disorders provides and interdisciplinary curriculum for specialization in treatment of eating disorders, internship positions and other training for profesisonals. It holds international conferences for sufferers, their relatives and experts in the field.
Objectives:
- Improve the psychosocial situation of sufferers and their relatives
- Break down individual and social prejudices against sufferers from Eating Disorders
- Enhance public understanding of eating disorders and identify those socio-cultural factors that may contribute to the onset of an eating disorder and to help to change these factors
- Achieve a more adequate treatment for sufferers
- Increase quantity and improve quality of treatment and of available self-help
