Sponsored by: Neuroscience Education Institute [NEI]

January 15-17, 2010
Carlsbad, CA

This is the last of three "semesters" of this course, which are conducted about 3 months apart.

The overall course will cover 7 major neurotransmitter systems, 7 major drug classes, and 10 critical concepts of psychopharmacology, including review of dozens of specific psychopharmacologic agents. It is intended to help participants develop new strategies for treatment resistance across psychopharmacology by becoming more familiar with older drugs as well as new drug combinations for difficult patients. The theoretical presentations will be adapted in case-based workshops that include treatments and outcomes of patients.

Objectives:

  • Link malfunctioning and inefficient information processing in critical brain circuits to symptoms of psychiatric illnesses
  • Apply new strategies for patients with difficult-to-treat and treatment-resistant anxiety disorders
  • Implement individualized treatment strategies for patients with anxiety disorders
  • Provide support and treatment options to individuals with drug abuse/dependence and psychiatric comorbidities
  • Identify and manage sleep/wake disorders in psychiatric patients
  • Recognize and manage the evolution of ADHD symptoms
  • Recognize symptoms of early-stage dementia and implement appropriate treatment

Instructor: Stephen M Stahl, MD, PhD.
